Dorothy “Dot” B. Benson, age 75, of Newark, DE passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Christiana Hospital.
Dorothy was born on December 9, 1937 in Lewisburg, WV to the late Emory & Lizzie Mae (Allen) Williams.
Dot worked at the Glass Kitchen for over 40 years where she worked every aspect of the restaurant business from waitress to food prep. She was also known to sell Avon and Tupperware. A loving and caring mother, wife and person, she was known to put everyone’s needs in front of her own. Her purse was known “to make MacGuyver proud” as it seemed to have anything anyone would ever need inside. She would often dance and sing to her favorite music around the house which would include Sinatra, Elvis and many of the old country greats. Dot was always within reach of some candy and a cup of coffee.
She is survived by her sons, David Benson and wife Rosalie of Newark, DE, Mark Benson and wife Dawn of Newark, DE and James Benson, Jr. and wife Danielle of Newark, DE; daughters, Jane Benson and Betty Wyatt, both of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Kacee Benson, Scott Estep, Morgan Benson, Taylor Benson, Abby Benson, Mark Jr. and Jenna Benson; sister, Gaynel Hanas of Baltimore, MD and brother, David Williams of Lancaster, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Benson Sr. in 2012.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921 where friends may visit one hour prior beginning at 10AM. Interment will follow at St. Clements Cemetery in Massey, MD.
