Dorothy “Mimi” A. Moore

Dorothy (Mimi) A. Moore, age 86, from Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024. She was born on July 9, 1937, in Chesapeake City, MD, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John D.A. Thornton, and Anna Mabel (Battersby) Thornton.

Dorothy dedicated over three decades of her life to the Artesian Water Company, where she made long-lasting friendships.  Dorothy loved her home and her flower garden, spending time tending to her beloved black-eyed susans, taking walks around the circle, visiting with neighbors and her furry friends.  In addition to her love for gardening, Dorothy enjoyed crocheting and shopping. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding joy in the company of her family. She adored her granddaughters and spent time in Florida with Jennifer and here with Olivia volunteering at her school where she formed special bonds with all of her granddaughter’s friends.

Dorothy, a sassy little lady who touched the lives of many with her infectious laughter and warm smile. She enjoyed caring and helping others and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.  The family wants to thank all of Dorothy’s neighbors for their kindness and support.

Dorothy is survived by her son Mark K. Moore, daughter Carol A. Moore, granddaughters Jennifer Moore (husband, Dan) and Olivia A. Moore, and great-grandson, Kenny Austin, IV.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Maurice K. Moore, Jr.; siblings: Bud Thornton, Patsy Lyons, Baldy Thornton, Betty Brittingham, Bill Thornton, and Mary Hurt.

Services for Dorothy will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made payable to “Accent Care”, or to “American Cancer Society” sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
