Doris Wyatt Boys, age 96 of Newark, DE passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Doris was born in Wilmington, DE on May 16, 1926, the daughter of Amos and Olevia (Knotts) Wyatt.
Doris grew up in Marydel, MD, where her father was the PRR Station Agent. She graduated from Greensboro, MD high school, Valedictorian of her class in 1943. In 1945 she received her AA degree in business from Wesley College in Dover, DE, and after graduation worked for a law firm in Wilmington, DE for 3 years. In 1946, she met her future husband when they were both in a classmates wedding at Newark Methodist Church. In 1948 they were married and moved to Bridgeville, DE where Doris worked for the local furniture store as a bookkeeper for 3 years until her children were born.
In 1965 the family moved to Newark when Frank accepted a position at the University and Doris a position at the University of Delaware Scholarship and Financial Aid offices, as a records analyst until her retirement in 1985. Then she and Frank spent many happy years traveling throughout all the states and many countries.
When at home she enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center gift shop and Hope Dining Room for her church.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Boys, of Newark; daughter, Amy Thompson (Larry) of Hockessin; son, Kenneth Boys (Ivan) of New York; grandson, Jamie Thompson (Rachel) of Florida; granddaughter, Beth Carroll (John) of New Castle and great-grandchildren, Jarett, Wyatt, Cooper, Meredith, and Lacie.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Frank Boys.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Newark United Methodist Church, Newark, DE, where family and friends may begin visiting at 4:00 pm. Burial will be private.
