Donna Lee Morris, 59, of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away January 23, 2014 at Med Star Washington Medical Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
Born in Wilmington, DE on December 13, 1954, Donna was the only child of Ida Morris and the late Bradford Leon Morris. In 1956, she and her mother moved to Chicago and returned to Rising Sun, MD in 1964. Donna was a member of the National Honor Society, and also won various art awards in high school and received further art training at Fine Arts Regional Center. During the early ’70s, she earned her brown belt in the Karate Club of Elkton under sensei Toby Cooling who later formed the Order of Isshin-Ryu, which is still in existence under Master Toby Cooling’s leadership. She received her B.S. in Psychology with minors in Spanish and General Sciences in 1976.
Following a brief time as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration, Donna joined the U.S. Army in 1979 and in 1981, graduated as a Russian Linguist at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center, Monterey, CA. Also in 1981, she graduated as an electronics warfare/SIGINT voice interceptor from USAF Technical Training School, Goodfellow AFB, Texas. This training prepared her for transfer in 1981 to Field Station Berlin as a Russian Linguist and further training as a Signals Analyst. She ended her service with Good Conduct and Army Occupation Medals.
In July 1984, Donna joined the Office of Naval Intelligence where she worked in various capacities for 26 years, retiring in December 2010 as a data management specialist. She received the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for services from 2001 until retirement.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by 18 first cousins, all grandchildren of Arthur and Ella May Campbell.
A service honoring her life will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Saturday May 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at the funeral home beginning at 10 am. Memorial contributions in Donna’s name may be made payable to Epworth United Methodist Church, American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 Honor Guard, Rising Sun, MD, or Washington Regional Transplant Community and mailed to the funeral home.
