Donald Anthony Arles, 81, of Newark, DE, died January 19, 2012 at Manor Care in Wilmington, DE.
Donald was born March 24, 1930, in Oswego, NY, the son of the late Antonio and Stella Arles. He graduated from Manhattan College, NY in 1952 with a BA in Civil Engineering and started work for E.I. DuPont de Nemours in Seaford, DE.
On January 9, 1954, he married the former Grace White of Federalsburg, MD and they lived in Seaford until moving to Newark in 1974.
He served in the Army, 1955-57 at Ft. Belvoir, VA as an instructor at the Army engineer School for field grade officers. Following his discharge he continued work at DuPont retiring in 1992. He then formed his own Corporation and worked with an engineering and construction company of DuPont projects. He closed his Corporation in 1996.
Don’s hobbies were photography and art. He took many pictures of sights and places that he visited through his work and the family camping trips throughout the United States and Canada. He enjoyed oil painting and his paintings hang on the walls for the family to enjoy. He also loved riding the waves and the family vacations at Bethany Beach and the Outer Banks in NC.
Don was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church while living in Seaford and helped survey and lay out the cemetery. After moving to Newark he became a member of St. Johns/Holy Angels Church and served as an usher.
Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Grace, one brother, James Arles of New Rochelle, NY, seven children, Denise A. King, Oakton, VA, Anthony D. Arles, Miami, FL, Keith R. Arles, The Woodlands, TX, Andrea A. Raciti, Chester Springs, PA, Peter J. Arles, Pearland, TX, David P. Arles, Richmond, VA, and Jeannine A. McKnight, Sykesville, MD and 12 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday January 23, 2012 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711. A visitation will be held at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 on Sunday January 22 from 6 – 8 pm or 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at 3 pm Monday at Our lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Seaford.
