Dawne Doretta McMullen, 73, peacefully passed away at her home on June 12, 2024. Born in Elkton, Maryland, on January 2, 1951, she was the cherished daughter of the late Vernon E. and Elizabeth M. McMullen.
Dawne dedicated 20 years of her life working for the State of Delaware. She began her career as a Toll Collector, eventually rising to the position of Supervisor, where her commitment and leadership left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community.
A passionate fan of classic Rock & Roll, Dawne’s love for music was a defining aspect of her life. She particularly enjoyed the sounds of Bon Jovi and Bob Seger, attending their concerts whenever possible. One of her fondest memories was taking her son, Shawn, to his first concert, sharing her love for music with him.
Dawne had a special place in her heart for Border Collies, with her favorite being Darby. Her affection for her furry companions was well known among her family and friends.
Later in life, Dawne bravely battled Multiple Sclerosis, demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience throughout her illness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Elizabeth, and her brother, Tyrone McMullen.
Dawne is survived by her loving son, Shawn Yale, and his wife, Kimberly Anderson. She also leaves behind dear friends Deborah Brown, Torri Barr, George Coulson, Patricia Coulson, Kelly Coulson, Katherine Johnston, and George Coulson II, , all of whom will deeply miss her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit.
A Graveside Service to honor Dawne’s life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at West Nottingham Cemetery, located at 1195 Firetower Road, Colora, Maryland.
Dawne’s legacy of love, music, and dedication to her work and family will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
