David Warfield Paca

David Warfield Paca, age 77, of Greenville, SC, passed away on June 3, 2012. He was born in Quantico, VA on March 20, 1935.

David comes from a long line of Paca’s reaching back to William Paca, Governor of Maryland, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. His parents were Louise and William Paca, who was a decorated Marine; so that David grew up in a variety of venues.

He was preceded in death by his dear first wife, Judy and their young son, Davie. David is survived by his wife, Bev; sons, Jeff, Carl and Terry; step daughter and son, Betsy and Chuck; as well as his brother, William and his wife, Gene. There are six grandchildren, one niece, three nephews, and six grandnieces.

David attended Virginia Tech and graduated from the University of Delaware. He was a veteran, serving in the Army, during the Vietnam era. His first job was with Armstrong Cork in up-state New York and southern Delaware, before moving on to the University of Delaware, in the Office of the Treasurer, in accounting and budgeting, where he spent 23 interesting and engaging years. Before total retirement, David was a successful real estate agent with Gilpen and Patterson Schwartz. He has been an enthusiastic sailor, in the waters of the Chesapeake, as well as an avid reader, exchanging books with his brother Bill. Through the years, he was a generous supporter of the U of D sports, in addition to attending many other activities on campus. He was also converted to cheering on his favorite Boston teams. He enjoyed travel, stamp collecting, camping with the boys, walking on the beach and in the mountains, and working on small building projects. Some of his favorite past times included playing with his various dogs and cats, and feeding the birds. Dave, to his many friends, will be surely missed and greatly remembered. With each passing life there is left behind something beautiful and remarkable.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 2:00pm at the St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington, DE. A Celebration of Life get-together will be held in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considerations to the William Paca House & Gardens in Annapolis, MD, a cause David supported through the years and was dear to his heart.
