David Michael Bednarik, age 65, of Elkton, MD passed away Friday, October 5, 2012.
David was born on November 24, 1946 to the late Charles Albert and Mary A. (Pivovarnicek) Bednarik in Bethlehem, PA. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1964 where he went on to attend La Salle College majoring in Political Science. While at La Salle College he was lettered two years in basketball and graduated in 1968. He also attended Liberty Bible College in Pensacola, Florida.
David held various manufacturing positions throughout his lifetime including production supervisor, manager, quality management, safety/environmental management, and many positions in the chemical industry. Throughout the past two years David was employed as a substitute teacher for Cecil County Public Schools, which he really enjoyed and theorized that it may have been his true calling. He was a former member of the School Board for the Saucon Valley School District. He was actively involved in various community involvements in Hellertown, PA and Elkton, MD. As a passionate sports fan he also coached a variety of youth teams including volleyball and basketball.
David’s number one devotion in life was his faith in his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. He served the Lord in various capacities at churches he attended through the years. He served as an elder, deacon, praise/worship leader, men’s ministries, missions (Panama), youth & Sunday school ministries, and a married couples’ team leader. He was an avid supporter of missions. As a devoted Christian his favorite Bible verse was Psalm 63:1, which reads, “My Soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You.” One of his favorite songs was “I’ll Fly Away” by the Casting Crowns, and on Friday, October 5th his soul flew off to Heaven.
The best day of David’s life was November 22, 1969 when he was married to his wonderful wife Cynthia who led him to the Lord; The most important day of his life was April 19, 1975 when he accepted Christ as his Savior; and the happiest day of his life was December 5, 1984 when his beautiful daughter, Joy was born.
David is survived by his daughter, Joy Bednarik of Elkton, MD; brothers, Charles “Chuck” Bednarik and his wife, Emma of Center Valley, PA, and John “Jeep” Bednarik and his wife, Sandy of Allentown, PA.
Including his parents, David was also predeceased by his loving wife of 33 years, Cynthia; brother, Richard Bednarik; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Perino and Mary Huber; and his favorite dog, Maxie.
