David F. Wright of Elkton, MD, age 74, passed away Wednesday, June 06, 2018. He was born on December 22, 1943 in Wilmington, DE to the late Norman Wright and Myrtle E. (Griffin) Wright.
David proudly served in the United States Army serving in Europe. He later became a member of the VFW Post 8175 in Elkton, MD where he was very active. David was the co-owner/operator of Wright Construction in Wilmington, DE. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542. David enjoyed boating, crabbing and being on the water. He was known as “Captain” and “Captain Pop Pop” by his family and friends. David was a founding member of the UCYC and its annual Crab Feast. He was always on the move with his “happy feet”, helping others, and making life special for those around him.
David is survived by his fiancé of 32 years, Cynthia (Cindy) Secor of Elkton, MD; son, David F. Wright, Jr. and his wife, Paula of Wilmington, DE; daughter, Veronica (Roni) Gates and her husband, Patrick of Wilmington, DE; four grandchildren: Clancy, Riley and Michaela Gates and Paige Wright; Cindy’s daughter, Karlene Secor and her wife, Tanya Gressley; two sisters: Becky Mery of Rehoboth, DE, Dorothy Rodenhiser of Wilmington, DE; and brother, Bobby Wright of Rehoboth, DE.
A celebration of David’s life will be held between 2pm and 4pm on Sun. June 10, 2018 at the Elkton VFW, 208 W. High St., Elkton, MD. Attendees are welcome to share memories starting at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s honor may be made payable to “VFW Post 8175” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921.
