Darlene J. Speed, 74, of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully Saturday, December 26, 2015 at her home. Born December 17, 1941 in Charleston, WV, Darlene was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Isabelle (Jarrell) Brown.

Darlene was employed as a seamstress at W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. She was a volunteer for the Northern Chesapeake Hospice and was recognized by them as a dedicated volunteer. Previously she was employed at JCPenney in the custom drapery department. She loved playing bingo, doing word searches and was known for having a kind and generous heart.

Darlene is survived by her son, Kevin L. George (Patty) of Elkton, MD; three sisters, Arlene “Sis” LaPointe of Newark, DE, Janet Byerley (James) of Bremerton, WA, and Bonnie Mahone of Ripley, WV; and her precious grandson, Justin Todd George. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James F. Speed; brother, Ralph Brown, brother-in-laws, Roland LaPointe and Mike Mahone and grandson, Chad Michael George.

A graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Bethel Cemetery, 312 Bethel Cemetery Road, Chesapeake City, MD 21915. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital in memory of her grandson Chad Michael George and in honor of her grandson Justin Todd George and sent in care to R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
