Daniel Eugene Miller, Sr., 84, a former longtime resident of Cordele Road in Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, MD. Born on November 2, 1931, in Boothe, WV, he was the son of the late Oscar and Nellie (Blankenship) Miller.
Daniel was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. After the conclusion of his service, Daniel went to work for Diamond State Telephone Company, retiring after 35 years, as a foreman. After retirement, Daniel worked for Strawbridge & Clothier and also Macy’s. In his younger years, Daniel was a licensed pilot and enjoyed spending his leisure time flying small engine planes. He enjoyed fishing, and simply being outdoors. Mechanically inclined, he was constantly in the process of tinkering or fixing things around his home and for others. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help his family.
Daniel is survived by his daughter, Kelly Boyland and her husband, Chris, of Poolesville, MD; son, Jim Miller and his wife, Sandi, of Millsboro, DE; and grandchildren: James Miller, Jr., Shannon Walls, Jacquelyn Boyland, Stephanie Boyland, and Julia Boyland.
In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Miller and son, Daniel E. Miller, Jr.
A Celebration of Daniel’s Life will be held at 12PM on October 22, 2016 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may visit beginning at 11AM. Burial will follow at Newark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Eye Tumor Research Foundation at Shields and Shields (Wills Eye Hospital)” and sent c/o the funeral home.
