Concetta Maria Georgov – March 13, 1931 – May 27, 2024
Connie was born in Newark, New Jersey to Maria and Salvatore Pulitano. She had two brothers, Nicholas and Joseph; both having pre-deceased her. Her Father died when she was four. Her mother spoke very little English but was an entrepreneur of her time to support her three children. Connie attended Barringer High School (the 3rd oldest high school in the USA) and one year of college. Connie loved to dance. In her yearbook, friends wrote, “No man will get Connie, if he can’t dance”. She worked at the Newark (NJ) Public Library and in a one-girl office.
While Connie was a Senior Library Assistant, she developed her interest in art and volunteering with and for the public. Connie married Bill Georgov on June 24, 1956 and DuPont transferred them to Wilmington, DE. They lived in Monroe Park Apartments and McDaniel Crest, where Luisa and Bruce were born. Shortly after the arrival of Luisa and Bruce, Bill accepted a position in Cleveland, Ohio where Connie volunteered as a model for the Art Institute of Cleveland.
Bill’s next job took him to Havre de Grace, MD, and Connie and Bill purchased their first home in Bear, DE in 1967. Involving her children in every activity you can imagine (archery, water ballet, clarinet, trombone, piano, tap dancing, 4-H, baseball, etc.), she devoted much of her time to volunteering so she could be around them. Among her many noteworthy activities was hosting foreign visitors in their home and traveling the world. The hosting was through the University of Delaware and SERVAS, who are devoted to peace, goodwill and understanding.
In 1969, she started ushering at the University of Delaware Summer program with Luisa and Bruce. Through the U of D connection, Dr. Lawrence Wilker, English Professor, invited them to be pioneer ushers at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington in 1971 and she was the first volunteer to receive the honor of “Usher of the Year” and was later awarded a trip to London for her volunteer efforts. Her ushering expanded to 29 theatres in MD, DE, FL and PHL. She loved everything about live theatre – meeting the patrons and seeing the live show.
Frank Sinatra and his music were on throughout the home. Who remembers “Friday with Frank” and “Sunday with Sinatra”?
In 1978, Connie started the Friends of Bear Library in her home to recruit support.
She was a member of the Civic League for New Castle County and served on its board for many years. She joined in 1978 and for over thirty years was the Chairperson of the Delaware New Citizen Project where League volunteers hand out welcome folders to all new citizens at the Naturalization Ceremonies. This fit in with her hosting foreign visitors and she enjoyed each welcome program. Her years with the League were one of her favorite volunteer positions, and once a month Connie dressed in her red, white and blue outfit to welcome our newest citizens to Delaware and the United States of America.
She modeled at the Delaware Art Museum, was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Newark SR Center, the local archery club, Retired SR Volunteer Program, Auxiliary member of the 12th Armored Division from WWII (Bill’s Infantry Division) and an avid supporter of all activities in which the family were involved.
She will be remembered for her Italian spirit, her caring concern and true interest in those around her and her desire to keep learning.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William, her daughter Luisa (Gene Frye), her son Bruce (Diane) and two grandsons: Matthew (Stacey – and great-granddaughter Haley) and Ryan (engaged to Shannan) and three nephews and their families: Salvatore, Joseph and John Pulitano and much-loved cousins and their families.

Remember: Wear that jewelry. Meet your neighbor. Get a library card. Take that trip. And listen to Frank.
