August 31, 2012, Clifford L. Souder, age 86, of Rising Sun, MD, passed from this life into the heavenly home that he so long desired to see. There he joyfully reunited with his eldest son, Larry, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen Souder; six children, Barbara Broomell and husband Joe of Rising Sun, Karen Taylor and husband Ellis of Slatington, PA, Sharon Mangold and husband Michael of Middletown, MD, Donald Souder and wife Sondra of North East, MD, Ronald Souder and wife Michelle of Church Hill, TN, and Duane Souder and wife Margaret of Rising Sun, MD. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count.
Clifford was born in Owen County, KY and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was stationed at Bainbridge. He worked as a mechanic and electrical repair expert for Chrysler in Newark, DE and retired from there in 1982, after 30 years of service. He was an expert mechanic and skilled carpenter and craftsman. More importantly, his true life’s work lay in his service and devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Over the years, he filled numerous roles in church, including musician, singer, teacher, deacon and elder. Most notably, he was instrumental in the founding of the Apostolic Gospel Church of West Grove, PA (now Christ Community Fellowship), where he personally provided much of the labor in constructing the original church facility. After retirement, Clifford and Helen moved to Tennessee and spent a number of years there, returning to Maryland in 2000. At the time of his passing, Clifford was at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday September 3, 2012 at Christ Community Fellowship, 356 Chatham Road, West Grove, PA 19390. Friends and family may call at the church beginning at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be at 12 noon on Tuesday September 4, 2012 at Christ Community Fellowship Cemetery.
