Clara Highsmith Yoder, age 93, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at sunrise on the day of a super moon. Clara was born in Shoals Junction, South Carolina on April 24, 1924 to the late Thomas and Eliza Highsmith.
Clara served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. She was a member of Newark United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Newark Senior Center.
Clara was an avid fisherwoman and outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed watching wildlife and spent many hours fishing on Sunset Lake. She had a strong love for her many friends and neighbors in Brookside Park.
She is survived by her five children: Roy G. Yoder and his wife, Julie Buffaloe of Durham, NC, Heidi Menasco and her husband, Timothy of Middletown, DE; Clyde Edwards Yoder, Jr. of Newark, DE, Gibson C. Yoder and his wife, Dianna of Middletown, DE, Eugene D. Yoder and his wife, Jeanette of San Mateo, CA; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Clyde Edwards Yoder, Sr.
A Celebration of Clara’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Newark United Methodist Church, with parking at 62 East Delaware Ave, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10 am, burial will follow at Newark Cemetery in Newark, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to “Newark Senior Center” and sent in care of R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
