Charlie W. Hinkle, 88, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away unexpectedly January 10, 2015 at his home.
Born in Amanotta, VA on December 7, 1926, Charlie was the son of the late Homer and Martha Hinkle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines during the Second World War as an M.P. Following his discharge, he worked at Perry Point Veterans Hospital until his retirement in 1982. After retirement, he moved to Dover DE from 1983 to 2000 to helps his sons in different business ventures. He was a member of Mason Dixon American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun and a charter member of Chesapeake City VW Post 7687. He enjoyed bowling and bowled in several national tournaments, as well as horse racing and was a fan of the Orioles, Colts and Ravens.
Surviving are his sons, Charlie Hinkle, Jr and his wife Cynthia, and Roger Hinkle, all of Dover, DE; his daughter Charleen Dunn and her husband John Wayne Dunn of Rising Sun; 4 grandchildren, Michael Dunn, Nicole Harmon and her husband David, Danyell Hinkle, and Amy Piolunek; 3 great grandchildren, Miles and Chase Harmon and Brielle Mosley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Hilda Faye Hinkle who died in 1992 and his brother Glenn Allen Hinkle.
Services honoring his life will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Thursday January 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at the funeral home beginning at 10 am. Burial will follow in Conowingo Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Post 194 Honor Guard and mailed to the funeral home.
