Charles William Morrison, Jr., age 91, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on May 2, 2025. Born on August 21, 1933, in St. George, Delaware, he was the beloved son of the late Charles William Morrison, Sr. and Sara Davis (née Moore) Morrison. He was the devoted husband of 68 years to Betty Jean (née Crispin) Morrison.
Charles was a proud graduate of Newark High School. Following high school, he began his career at the Chrysler Corporation, where he worked as a Stock Chaser for 35 years.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Christiana Volunteer Fire Company, serving for an incredible 65 years. He rose through the ranks serving in many positions including President, carrying on a family tradition.
Charles was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-It”. He could be found often tinkering in his barn. His love of projects extended to his yard, which he maintained with care and dedication. Continuing family rituals of vacations down the shore, upon retirement, he fulfilled his vision of creating more memories surrounding his family, owning a home in Ocean City, New jersey, for over 30 years.
Family was the center of Charles’ world. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. His kindness, quiet wisdom, and strong sense of responsibility touched the lives of all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lisa Gibbons.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Morrison; his daughter, Donna Morrison; his son, Charles William Morrison III and wife Angela; grandchildren: Sara Gibbons, Shawn Gibbons, and Jennifer Barnshaw; and great-grandchildren: Grace Gibbons and Jack Barnshaw.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, Delaware. Family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at White Clay Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Charles’ memory to the Christiana Volunteer Fire Company Museum Fund, an organization that held a special place in his heart.
