Charles Thomas Johnson Sr. “Tom”, age 68 of Port Deposit, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at his home. He was born on March 9, 1955, in Ashe County, NC to the late James Roscoe Johnson, and Mae Ola (Roland) Johnson.
Tom enjoyed working as a carpenter and building homes from the ground up. As a craftsman in the construction business, Tom was a perfectionist. He took great pride in restoring his great grandfather’s home in North Carolina. Tom often shared the knowledge of his craft by teaching others. He was known as “Master of All Trades” by many. Tom also enjoyed traveling to the beaches of North Carolina and Ocean City, Maryland. He had a love for cars, especially Corvettes and Chevelles. He loved spending time watching his grandchildren play ball. Tom loved his family, he was a devoted husband and father, always putting them first. As a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, Tom believed in God and family as the most important things in life.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Virginia Johnson “Ginny”; sons, Charles T. Johnson II “TJ” (Samantha), and Andy Johnson (Angela); grandchildren, Briana Villars (Caleb), Elizabeth Johnson, Charles T. Johnson III “CJ”, Micah Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Raven Johnson, Thomas “Tommy” Johnson, Aubree Johnson, and Bradley Johnson; siblings, Becky Wagman (Bill), Kathy Anderson (Howard), James Johnson (Sheila), Billy Johnson (Linda), Wally Johnson (Kim), Janni Sharpless (Jim), Ellie Newsome (Joe), and Benny Johnson (Tara).
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his grandchildren, Andy Ray Johnson II, and Nathanael Ray Johnson; and sister, Mary Ellen Ladd.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 150 Downin Ln, Port Deposit, MD 21904, from 6-8 PM. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10 AM. A burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
