Charles S. “Chuck” Smith, aged 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2012.
Charles was born April 8, 1931 in Hartford, KY to the late Thomas and Lula (Johnson) Smith.
Upon his retirement from Chrysler, Chuck spent his time on his hobbies which included fishing, gardening and landscaping. An accomplished musician, he played the ukulele, guitar, bass, as well as the bagpipes and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music.
He is survived by his daughter Gale Kraemer of Newark, DE, son Charles Douglas Smith of Elkton, MD, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a sister Mary Hoover of Kentucky.
He is predeceased by his wife Ellen Irene, his son Thomas Walter, sister Pauline Jacobson, stepmother, Luvena Rone, and two brothers.
A service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Gracelawn Memorial Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720. Friends and family may visit 6-8 pm on Monday, September 10, 2012 at R.T. Foard & Jones F.H., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711 and one hour before service at Gracelawn. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society c/o R.T. Foard & Jones.
