Charles R. Goodie, 82, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away February 26, 2013 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center.
Born in Rising Sun, MD on May 8, 1930, Charles was the son of the late William Clarence and Florence Wright Goodie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Charles passion was firefighting. He was a professional firefighter at Bainbridge Naval Station and Aberdeen Proving Ground and was a life member of the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun. Charles was also a member of Janes United Methodist Church and Mason Dixon American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet Grason Goodie; a son, Charles A. Goodie and his wife Trish of Middletown, MD; a daughter Phyllis Shoemaker and her husband Keith of Princeton, NJ; 5 grandchildren, Kara Shoemaker, and Taylor, Caleb, Chloe and Carson Goodie. He also leaves behind his brother, Richard L. Goodie; his sister Lillian Lieske; and sister in law Louise Goodie. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion and Howard Goodie.
A service honoring his life will be held at Janes United Methodist Church, Rising Sun, MD on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Friends and family may call at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm. Burial will follow in Brookview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice or the Community Fire Co. of Rising Sun c/o the funeral home.
