Dr. Charles Lawrence Brandenburg, Jr. (“Larry”) age 91, of Rising Sun, MD departed from this life peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 with his family at his side. He was born on January 29, 1927 in Essex, MD to the late Charles Lawrence Brandenburg, Sr. and Martha Ellen (Brawner) Brandenburg.
Larry graduated from Kenwood High School in Essex, MD and went on to attend Washington College in Chestertown, MD. He later attended the University of Maryland Dental School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Larry was active with several organizations throughout his life; serving a President of the Harford-Cecil Dental Association in 1965, the Cecil Co. Board of Education in 1970, President of the Maryland State Dental Association in 1976 and the Union Hospital staff of 48 years to name a few.
Larry practiced dentistry in Rising Sun, MD from 1956 to 2014. He often made mention that dentistry had brought many opportunities into his life. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Forest Hill, MD. He spent 30 years in the mission field as a volunteer in dentistry where he worked with many organizations and traveled to many countries. Some countries that he was particularly proud to work in were: Central America, South America, Africa, Romania, Israel, Madagascar, Mongolia and India.
Larry found joy in flying which lead him to obtain a private airplane license, commercial license and instrument license.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Brandenburg; three daughters: Mary Jane Rogers (Robert), Judith Ann Clark and Elizabeth Ann Arehart (David); three sons: Robert E. Lee Brandenburg, Charles Lawrence Brandenburg III (Carla) and Paul Clinton Brandenburg; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters: Geraldine Baumgardner, Helen Bullington and Evelyn Ford; and brother, Jesse Brandenburg.
