Charles F. Smith, 66, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away October 10, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Atlanta, GA on February 28, 1946, Charles was the son of the late Allen Wesley and Martha Alford Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and graduated from the Citadel in 1977. He worked as a chemist and plant manager at Colonial Metals. He was a five time Commander of Perryville American Legion Post 135, a two time County Commander, a District Commander and Chaplain. Charles was a regular contributor to the Cecil Soil and enjoyed serving veterans at Perry Point. He had a genuine heart of a servant and was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce DiAngelo Smith; a son, Michael Smith and his wife Kim of North East; a daughter Julie at home and a grandchild, Shane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather James Simmons and his brother Alan Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday October 25, 2012 at American Legion Post 135 in Perryville. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
