Charles F. Carrico, age 91 of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 26, 1923 in Fallston, MD to the late Robert Glenn and Phoebe Ollie (Higgins) Carrico.
At the age of 17, Charlie joined the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years, retiring in 1960. He then started employment at the Newark Post Office as a mail carrier. During this time, he was very active in the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Fleet Reserve, and the American Legion. He served and held offices in all these organizations at various times. In addition, he was president of the Newark National Association of Letter Carriers union for many years. For his years of faithful service, when the NALC acquired its meeting hall, they named it after Charlie.
Surviving Charlie are his wife Patty; sisters June Olivere (Michael) and Kathleen Wyatt; five step children, Alva Branch (Janet), Gary Branch, Steve Branch (Vera), Kathy Ryser (Ken) and Robin Russell. Charlie is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren who will greatly miss Pop Pop and all the treats that he handed out.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his four brothers, Robert, William, Richard, and James, and a sister Virginia.
A graveside service will be held at 1PM on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
