Charles Emory McCoy, age 82, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. Born on August 30, 1942, in Narrows, VA, he was the son of the late Jasper and Maxine (Chambers) McCoy.
Charles dedicated his life to service, both to his country and his community. He proudly served in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of duty and patriotism, which he carried throughout his life.
A devoted member of VFW Post 8175 in Elkton, Charles served as commander for 21 years, leading with integrity and compassion. Under his leadership, the post flourished, and his contributions were recognized when he was honored as Elkton Citizen of the Year.
Beyond his service, Charles was a skilled craftsman and the proud owner of his own construction business. He took immense pride in his work, ensuring that every project he completed reflected his strong work ethic and attention to detail.
An avid outdoorsman, Charles found joy in hunting, fishing, and golfing. Whether in the woods, on the water, or on the greens, he cherished the time spent in nature and with family and friends.
Charles is survived by his wife, Angie McCoy; his three children: Chad McCoy and his wife, Joy, Jennifer Swintek and her husband, Bryan and Charlie McCoy, II; and his five grandchildren: Samuel Swintek, Leo Swintek, Gabriel Swintek, Lilly McCoy, and Gannon McCoy; step-daughter, Amy Reynolds and her husband, Harry; two brothers: Jack McCoy and Noble McCoy, and his sister, Virginia Asbury.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph McCoy.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025, at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where family and friends are welcome to gather beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial with military honors will follow at Elkton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Elkton VFW 8175” or “Bayside Community Network” and sent in care of the funeral home.
