Carrie Belle “Kate” Hodge, aged 75, of Elkton, MD, passed away on June 11, 2013 at her home in Fair Hill. She was married to her best friend, John Franklin “Frank” Hodge, Sr., for 56 years. Kate was born in Woodbine, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1937 to the late Harley and Delores Stanley.
A graduate of Kennard-Dale High School in Fawn Grove, PA, Kate was a devoted wife, homemaker, and mother to three boys – John Franklin Hodge, Jr. and wife Giulia of Elkton, MD, Jeffrey Douglas Hodge and wife Ann of Wilmington, DE and Jay Alan Hodge of Elkton, MD – by whom she is survived. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Nicholas Hodge of Parkville, MD, Ashlee Hodge of Bear, DE; Alana Hodge of Middletown, DE; Jennifer Hodge of Wilmington, DE; and three step-grandchildren: Cory Wayne of Philadelphia and Jared and Justin Drass of Wilmington, DE.
Kate moved with her family to a Fair Hill farmette in 1976, where she enjoyed gardening, raising horses and other livestock. She also had a passion for sport, and became de facto Team Mom (or MomMom) for dozens of football, baseball, softball, and soccer teams over the decades.
One of ten children, Kate was preceded in death by Carletta Stanley, Lora Ewell, and Robert Stanley. She is survived by Austin Stanley of Bear, DE, Gernie Hudson and Janet Cook of Wilmington, DE, Gladys Wright of Newark, DE, Larry Stanley and Brenda Budzialek of Elkton, MD. Kate also left behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Monday, June 17, 2013 at R. T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD from 6:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks may be made payable to Seasons Hospice of Maryland or a charity of your choice and mailed to the funeral home.
