Carolyn Elizabeth Garwood, age 79, of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on December 31, 2018. She was born on April 13, 1939 in Wilmington, DE to the late Paul Morris Maxwell and Verna Elizabeth (Bland) Maxwell.
Carolyn was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the cancer support group for Tunnel Cancer Center in Lewes, DE where she found great inspiration and comfort amongst the members who became great friends. Carolyn will be remembered for her outgoing and fun spirited personality. She had wonderful friends that she enjoyed spending time with, particularly when it involved food. Carolyn loved all animals and loved spending time with her precious grandchildren. She and her late husband, John, enjoyed going dancing in their younger years.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Anne Spoor of Newark, DE and grandchildren: Samantha Spoor and Abby Spoor of Newark, DE.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, H. John Garwood.
A private burial for Carolyn will be held at Head of Christiana Cemetery in Newark, DE. A memorial service for Carolyn will be held on January 12, 2019 at 11:00am at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W 4th St, Lewes, DE 19958. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to, “Cancer Support Community Delaware, Sussex County” or “Bethel United Methodist Church” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc. 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.

We are long-term members of Bethel U.M. Church in Lewes. We really got to know Carolyn when her husband, John, became ill. As members of the Lewes Fire Dept Ambulance squad, we moved John from their home to Beebe Hospital several times. When I became ill with Multiple Myeloma, Carolyn made a point of calling me every Sunday afternoon to encourage me. I'm sorry to say I wasn't able to return the favor but she was always in my nightly prayers. It was announced at the 0915 service last Sunday that she was in hospice care. Regretfully, where she was with hospice wasn't announced. With the holiday, we were not able to find out "where" she was with Hospice, i.e., home, Milford Hospice or elsewhere. Carolyn will never be forgotten. I know she is smiling in Heaven and John is too. Caddie Ann Joseph, husband, "Chubby".
