Carl Austin Thomas, age 98, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024. He was born on July 29, 1925, in Point Pleasant, WV, to the late Otho Thomas and Roma A. (Morrison) Love.
Carl was a United States Navy veteran, serving during WWII in Italy. He bravely joined in 1943 at the young age of 17. His dedication and sacrifice demonstrated his commitment to his country and his fellow servicemen. After his honorable discharge, Carl went on to pursue a career as a mechanic in the automotive industry. He was an active member of the VFW, where he enjoyed spending time with his fellow veterans. Carl was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, spending time playing pool and cards with friends, and going to the horse races. He found joy in friendly tennis matches with his son and being very actively involved in his children’s upbringing. Known for his social nature and ability to get along with everyone, Carl was truly beloved by all who knew him.
Carl is survived by his children: Paula Downs (Richard), Karla Thompson, and George Thomas (Alesia); grandchildren: Bruce Mason, Richard Thompson, and Andrew Thomas.
In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel Thomas.
Services for Carl will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Delaware Hospice” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
