Calvin L. DeShields Sr., age 53, passed away on January 10, 2014, at his home in Newark, DE. He was born on February 16, 1960 in Laurel, DE to the late Levin Ennis and Alice M. DeShields.
Calvin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a 6th degree black belt in the art of Taekwondo who enjoyed his family and spending time with his children. Calvin was the life of any party and always made people feel good.
He is survived by his Companion, JoAnn Caldwell of Newark, DE; second mother, Betty Murray and her husband Verdel Murray Sr.; second father, Raymond Young of Wilmington, DE; sons, Calvin L. DeShields Jr. of Northeast, MD and Nathan Caldwell of Newark, DE; daughters, Kelly DeShields of Wilmington, DE and Desiree Caldwell-DeShields of Newark, DE; Brothers, Levin, Wilbur, and Charles DeShields, Steven, Johnathan and Verdel Murray Jr.; sisters, Maria and Vanessa DeShields, Joanne Brown, Claudia, Crystal, and Evon Murray as well as 2 granddaughters and a host of nieces and nephews and a close family friend, Jayne Marshall. He is predeceased by one brother, Richard E. DeShields who died in March of 1992 as well as his son William DeShields in 1996.
His preceded in death by his mother and father, Levin Ennis and Alice M. DeShields.
Services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Calvins name be made payable to the Caldwell-DeShields Education Fund and/or The Autism Foundation, and mailed to the funeral home.
