Bonnie R. Mills (Collins) passed away September 3, 2013 at home at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with ALS.
She was born on April 13, 1928 in New Germantown, PA to William and Caroline Collins. Her father worked in fiber mills and her mother was a school teacher. She had two brothers and four sisters. Bonnie grew up in Chesapeake City and graduated from Newark High School. She married her high school sweetheart, George I. Mills, Jr. in 1946. He preceded her in death in 2011. She worked in various capacities for the Red Clay School District, Meadowood School and the State of Delaware.
Her children and their families were the light of her life. She is survived by sons George III (Victoria), William (Carol), and Joe (Carolyn); 7 grandchildren Kate Mills, Kristin Caldwell (Lee), Bonnie Mills, Sarah Keever (Adam), Megan Jones (Michael), Joey Mills (Noelle) and Cameron Mills; and her great grandchildren Charlotte, Georgia and William. She is also survived by her brother William Collins and sister Betty Reese.
It seemed like everyone around Newark knew mom. Besides caring for her family, she enjoyed swimming, gardening, and dancing. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to all of her caregivers employed by Homewatch Caregivers.
A funeral service will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark DE 19711 on Friday September 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks may be made payable to Delaware Hospice or to the ALS Society of Philadelphia and mailed to R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
