Beverly Mae (Howe) Butterworth of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on March 10, 2021.
Beverly was born on February 26, 1930, in Mount Hope, WV. She and her mother, Rita Howe, moved to Bellefonte, DE about 1946. Beverly graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1948. After high school, she worked at Equitable Trust Company in Wilmington, DE, where she met her husband, G. Wallace (Wally) Butterworth. They were married on May 20, 1950 and were happily married for 58 years. They resided in Newark, DE where they raised three sons until they retired to Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community in Jennersville, PA.
Beverly was a loving and dedicated mother, a wonderful homemaker, and a great cook. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, volunteering, hosting family gatherings, and time with her grandchildren. Beverly was a long-time member of Newark United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed working as a volunteer in the church office. She was a member of the Newark Homemakers Club for over 50 years.
Her son, Mark S. Butterworth; and her husband, G. Wallace Butterworth, preceded her in death.
Beverly is survived by two sons: Robert (Linda) of Springfield, VA, and William (Linda) of Newark, DE; four grandchildren: Courtney (Bonnie Mills), Rebecca (Frank Wunder), Brian (Jennifer), and Lindsey Gomperts (Patrick) and great-grandchildren: Bradley Butterworth and Sadie Gomperts, with a great-granddaughter on the way.
Services at Ebenezer Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to “The Juvenile Diabetes Association” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
