



Betty M. Byrne, age 88, of Newark, DE passed away August 13, 2019. She was born on December 7, 1930 in Covington, VA to the late Emanuel H. Myers and Lahenia E. Myers. From Covington, she moved to Newark where she lived for 57 years.
Betty grew up listening to the music of the 1940’s and enjoyed dancing with her sisters. Her hobbies included quilting and crocheting. Betty was a social butterfly, talkative and would say “hi” to everyone. She worked at the Newark Department Store for many years and liked making connections with customers. Betty baked countless Christmas cookies for her family and friends at the holidays. She loved to play Bingo with her friends at Millcroft and would show up early to all her meals to socialize. She also so enjoyed the staff at Millcroft and was grateful for the care she got there.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Teresa C. Byrne (John W. Symon) of Naples, FL, Dolores McMullen (Mike) of Palo Alto, CA, and Eleanor Byrne (Darin E. Leeman) of Boston, MA. She is also survived by grandsons, Tyler McMullen (Meg) of Atlanta, GA and Nathan McMullen of Winston-Salem, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, James J. Byrne and six siblings. She also had to say good-bye too early to many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services for Betty M. Byrne will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Millcroft Senior Living for their many years of kind and attentive care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “American Lung Association” or “Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
