Betty Jane Hess Parker Moffett, aged 91, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones at her home in Newark, DE on August 11, 2023.
Born on August 22, 1931, in Peach Bottom, PA, she was the cherished daughter of the late Harry Hess and Gladys White. Betty’s early years were spent on a farm in Peach Bottom, PA, alongside her sister Arlene White Barclay. Later, her family owned a beloved store in Colora, MD. She completed her education at Rising Sun High School in Maryland.
Betty’s journey led her through various pursuits. She worked as a skilled seamstress at J.C. Penney and later joined a small company specializing in crafting Civil War clothing for film productions. With an entrepreneurial spirit, she ran several businesses from her home. Her ventures included an eBay store selling pet supplies, crafting and selling Barbie doll clothes, as well as nurturing and raising birds and fish. Her deep love for animals, especially cats and dogs, was evident in her compassion for all creatures. She was known in her neighborhood as the one to care for orphaned baby birds and squirrels until they could fend for themselves. An endearing tale is that of a Robin she raised; even after being released, it would return to perch by her backdoor.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Parker, and her second husband, William Moffett. During her final five years, she resided with her devoted daughter, Victoria, and caring son-in-law, Randy.
She is survived by her younger sister, Arlene Barclay and older brother Edgar (Sonny) Hess and her two children: Richard K. Parker and his wife, Shelly, and Victoria Jane Becker and her husband, Randy. Betty’s legacy extends to her four grandchildren: Charles A. and J. Miller Baynes, and Sara and Brande Parker. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Palmer and Sophie Baynes.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at the R. T. Foard Funeral Home – 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Friends and family may gather at 10:00 AM. Betty’s final resting place will be in New Bridge Baptist Cemetery.
May Betty Jane Hess Parker Moffett’s memory shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
