Betsy Lee Van Culin age 74 of Elkton, MD, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born on May 13, 1948, in Goshen, NY to the late John Lawrence Buckman and Adele Catherine (Biber) Van Sickle, step-father, Kenneth Van Sickle.
Betsy proudly served in the US Army from November 1966 – February 1969. She went on to earn two Masters degrees: one in Psychology and one in School Counseling. Shortly after receiving her second master’s degree, Betsy became an Elementary School Counselor within the Cecil County Public Schools until her retirement in June 2005. Betsy was an active member of National Board for Certified School Counselors, Cecil County Retired School Personnel Association, and Corresponding Secretary & Public Relations Committee.
Betsy was part of the congregation at Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church in Newark, DE. She enjoyed traveling around the world and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Betsy’s greatest joy, pleasure and love was her grandchildren.
Betsy is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Charles Megahan; sons: Warren Lee Van Culin, wife Tammy and Daniel Megahan, wife Carrie; daughter, Angela Megahan, husband Jeff; grandchildren: Rachel Van Culin, Cicely Toft, Logan King, Raegan Megahan, Rylie Megahan, Cody White, Nicholas White and Joshua Friend; great granddaughter, Sutton Johnson; sisters: Donna Finch, Gwen Reed, Caryl Philyaw, husband Earl, JoAnn Bariletti and brother, Tom Van Sickle and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betsy is preceded in death by her brothers, Al Buckman and Ken Van Sickle Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church, 1100 West Church Road, Newark DE 19711, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 am. Inurnment will follow at Head of Christiana Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the “Cecil County Retired School Personnel Association (CCRSPA) Scholarship Fund”, “Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church”, “American Heart Association” or “American Cancer Society” in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
