Barry Halliday, age 66 of Colora, MD, passed away suddenly Thursday, November 29, 2012. Born November 29, 1946 in Ithaca, NY, Barry was the son of the late Donald A. Halliday, Sr. and Elisabeth (Blessing) Halliday Burgess.
He worked for many years in the food service industry as a director, most recently at Applebee’s. He was a member of the ΣAE fraternity, the Jay Cee’s, the Colora Civic Association, and was the former Vice President of the Villages of Crofton Home Association.
Barry loved wood-working, gardening, reading, sailing, golfing, and traveling. He also adored spending time with his beloved Great Danes. However, family was his heart and soul. Barry cherished every moment spent with his beautiful, wonderful and devoted wife, Donna and his son, Ryan.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Donna of 27 years; son, Ryan Crouse and his fiancée, Kelly O’Hara of Bear, DE; sister-in-law, Deborah Halliday of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; and his niece, Liz Halliday Sharp of the United Kingdom. Including his parents, Barry was also predeceased by his step-father, Harry Burgess and his brother Donald A. Halliday, Jr.
A service will be held in his honor at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. Friends and family may visit beginning at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. (MAGDRL), 726 Route 202 South, Suite 320-140, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.

Barry was our friend. He was also our kids' friend. He was more like the peaceful overseer of Scott Run Circle. I loved his dry humor, his intellectual wisdom on many things, but especially loved how he was "dad" to a son he didn't genetically create. That was just a minor detail. Barry could, in one moment or phrase, settle everyone's spirit - by his gentle tone and care. I loved hearing his stories, especially of his own childhood. A man who seemingly had much to battle and overcome as a kid, somehow created his own way and space. He was not only a great dad and husband, but knew how to love his friends. I ache for my Donna, knowing the huge hole in your heart. I want to fix it but don't know how. But I will pray and AM praying for our Abba "Dad" to wrap His arms around you. He is doing this now.
