Barbara Ryser, formerly of Newark, DE, died on January 1, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Elkton, MD, she was the fourth child of the late Albert and Ethel Varady. She was raised in Newark, DE, graduated from Christiana High school and the University of Delaware.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Bruce Ryser, who also grew up in Newark; son Alexander and his wife Frances and their son Theodore Ryser; siblings Albert and Gail Varady of Newark; Nancy and Carl Koch of Wilmington; Ethel and Harold Hudson of West Chester; Darlene and Bob Battiste of Torrington, CT; brothers-in-law Kenneth and Kathy Ryser of Newark; Theodore and Susan Ryser of Newark; and many niece and nephews.
Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse for Hillsborough County School Health Services for 27 years. Our Angel on Earth, talented artist and “computer guru”, Barb was known for her prolific lectures, littered with humor, yet always kind and patient when training new hires. Barbara served as a mentor to nurses, LPNs & health assistants across the district. A musician, avid reader, and nature-lover who loved to travel, she was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11 AM at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local hospice chapter.
