Arthur “Smitty” F. Smith, age 94, of Newark, DE passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014 under the compassionate care of Season’s Hospice.
Born in Wilmington, DE on June 30, 1920, Smitty was the son of the late Arthur and Emma Smith. He graduated from Newark High School and went on to attend Goldey-Beacom College. He retired from his career with Anchor Motor Fright in July 1983. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union #326 for many years. He enjoyed boating, crabbing and spending time with his family and friends in Florida. Smitty enjoyed many things but cherished his time spent with his family.
Smitty is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Smith; his two daughters, Shirley Good and Gail Cooke and her husband, Paul.
Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Season’s Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and sent in care to R.T. Foard & Jones Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.

Smitty and Jean would come to Valu Food to shop and I worked there. They became my friends. They would bring their neighbor with them every week. I remember there was a time I was in the hospital and they took the time to come visit me. That meant so much to me. I also remember another friend and I stopped by their home to visit them. What I wonderful couple! I think of them offer and am saddened by Smitty passing. He was a gentle man. My love to Jean.
