Annabelle P. Wollaston, age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 16, 1925 in Lewes, DE, the eldest daughter of the late Esther West Prettyman and William H. Prettyman. She moved to Newark to attend the University of Delaware from which she graduated in 1946. She taught physical education at the University of Delaware for 2 Years. She also taught physical and health sciences, and science in the Wilmington School District and the Newark Special School District.
She was a member of the Newark United Methodist Church, the New Century Club, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Founders and the Patriots. Mrs. Wollaston was on the City of Newark Community Day Planning Committee for many years.
Her greatest pleasures included entertaining friends, playing bridge, buying, restoring, and selling antiques, and spending time at the beach.
She was a loving and supporting wife, mother, grandmother. Gramme enjoyed helping her grandchildren with projects, going to their band concerts, watching their sports activities (especially her favorite, field hockey), and just spending quality time with them.
Mrs. Wollaston was preceded in death by her son Wayne W. Wollaston.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years Robert F. Wollaston; her two daughters, Linda Lapointe and her husband Richard of Newark, DE, and Victoria Wollaston of Newport, DE and Richard Hampton of Newark, DE; three grandchildren Joshua Lapointe, Jessica Lapointe Piontek and husband Clifford, and Jenna C. Lapointe; and siblings William H. Prettyman and wife Irma, Patricia Ingram, Koretta Prettyman and James Prettyman.
The family would like to thank Ethel and the staff of Vitas Hospice Care for their care and support.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, January 12, 2015 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family visit one hour prior beginning at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at White Clay Creek Cemetery in Newark, DE. Omit flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Newark United Methodist Church” or “Vitas Hospice” and sent c/o the funeral home.
