Anna Lieske Renn, 101, of Rising Sun, Md., passed away peacefully April 24, 2014, at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, Md.
A Cecil County resident most of her life, Anna was born in Baltimore, Md., on Feb. 10, 1913, the daughter of the late Emil and Anna Siebert Lieske. She was preceded in death by her husband James M. Renn who died in 1990 and seven siblings: Emma, Matilda, Helen, Frederick, Emil, Arthur and Nancy—all of whom were raised on their parents’ farm at Barnes Corner near Rising Sun.
Anna is survived by two sons, James F. Renn, and his wife Vivian (nee Boulden), of Rochester, Minn., and A. Brian Renn, and his wife Mary (nee Madron) of Bel Air, Md.; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law Lillian (nee Goodie) Lieske and brother-in-law Laurence Rembold (wife Patricia) of Texas.
The family will remember her for innumerable holiday gatherings—especially crab feasts–her interest in and gift for interacting with children, and upbeat, faith-based attitude toward life. Anna was a charter member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in North East, Md., where she and her husband taught Sunday school for many years, were active in building the current church structure, and participated in many Lutheran-sponsored activities.
Educated in Rising Sun, Anna graduated from high school in 1930 and then worked at Sheffield Farm Company Creamery. She and James Renn were married in 1937 and moved to Essex, Md., where Jim was employed by the Glen L. Martin airplane company for eight years. The couple then moved into the Renn family homestead in Zion, Md., and for a while Anna worked with children with developmental disabilities and also at Pyrofax Gas Company in Elkton; her husband was with the Cecil County School Board from which he retired after 27 years.
A service honoring her life will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 12 noon at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, Rising Sun, with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Brookview Cemetery in Rising Sun.
