Anita L. (Harris) Crawford, age 69, of Elkton, Maryland, passed from this world peacefully on March 29, 2014 in Union Hospital of Cecil County, with her loving family by her side.
Her greatest joys were being a loving Wife, Mom and Grandmom, as well as a Caretaker to any little animal that ever found their way to her. She was the most loving and giving person anyone could have ever met. While we will miss Mom so greatly here on Earth, we know she is strong and whole again with her Lord in Heaven!
Anita was born in Henderson, North Carolina, on April 12, 1944, the daughter of the late Arnom H. Harris, Sr. and Hazel (Williamson) Harris. She grew up in Henderson where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. After graduation from Henderson High School in 1962, she earned an Associate Degree in 1964 from Louisburg College, Louisburg, North Carolina. Employment in a civilian capacity with the U.S. Air Force took Anita to Alexandria, Virginia in 1968, where she worked in the Pentagon and met her future husband Major Noel Crawford, Sr., who was serving with the U.S. Army. Anita and Noel were married on February 16, 1973 in Springfield, Virginia. Over the next 13 years, Anita, Noel and their children lived in several locations throughout the United States in response to Noel’s U.S. Military assignments, finally settling in Elkton in December 1986.
Anita leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Noel Crawford, Sr.; three children, daughter, Holly (Crawford) Ulmer and her husband George; son, Noel Crawford, Jr., and daughter, Mary Crawford; and three grandsons, Owen, Avery, and Isaac Ulmer, all residing in Elkton. Anita is also survived by her brother, Arnom H. Harris, Jr. and his wife, Julia Harris, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
In honoring her wishes, all services celebrating her life will be private. The family also requests that memorial contributions be made in Anita’s name to The Humane Society of the United States, Union Hospital of Cecil County and Amedisys Hospice of Greater Chesapeake.
