Andrew Thomas Horsey, 82, of Galena, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on July 19, 2026. Born on September 23, 1943, in Delmar, Delaware, he was the son of the late Melvin Andrew Horsey and Rosetta “Toots” Carter Horsey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Philip C. Horsey.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Ann Katherine Horsey; his children, Paula Ann Hurm, June Barbara Katzschner (Marc Katzschner), Susan Jennifer Moore, and Philip Andrew Horsey (Heather Horsey); his grandchildren, Anna, Joey (Jessica), Philip, Nathan (Megan), Elizabeth, Arielle, Zoë, Mitra, and Riley; and his great-grandchildren, Aurora and Augustus.

A proud graduate of Delmar High School (Class of 1961), Andrew attended the United States Coast Guard Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965. He was a standout athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball in high school. He continued playing baseball and football at the Academy, where he served as captain of the football team under legendary coach Otto Graham. He was a key member of the 1963 undefeated team that advanced to the Tangerine Bowl.

His distinguished Coast Guard service included assignments aboard the CGC Ingham and CGC Firebush, as well as combat duty in Vietnam aboard the CGC Point Hudson and CGC Point Welcome. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious service during the Vietnam War.

Following his sea duty, he served as a Company Officer for cadets at the Academy. He then pursued a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Miami, graduating cum laude in 1973. He practiced law in Portsmouth, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., until 1985. After he retired from 20 years of serving in the Coast Guard, he devoted two decades to public service as a Family Court Commissioner for the State of Delaware, where he made a lasting impact on families and the justice system.

Andrew cherished his family above all. He found great joy in beach trips and creating memories with loved ones. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, enjoyed card games and Scrabble, and loved watching sports. A dedicated gardener, he proudly tended a vegetable garden each year. He remained active with his Coast Guard Academy classmates and Delmar High School friends through golf outings, fundraising, and support for fellow alumni and their families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 7^th of August, 2026 at 11 am at St. Dennis Catholic Church, 153 North Main Street, Galena, Maryland. A private family committal service will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
