Alice Tacie McCormick Logan, age 100 joined the Church Triumphant on March 10, 2012 after a long life of manifold blessings. She was the youngest child of Tacie Jane Harkness and Harry M. McCormick of Newark.
She felt that she had lived in the “best of times” having gone from “horse and buggy” days to seeing a man on the moon.
Life as she grew up centered around activities at the school and Ott’s Chapel. It was a time when everyone in the community “looked out” for everyone else. Therefore, to “let your family down” meant also letting down the community. After graduation from Newark High School in 1929 and University of Delaware (known then as “the women’s college of Delaware”) in 1933, she taught three years in a one-room school (Welsh Tract), followed by five years at Stanton Elementary. All phases of life were shaken during this time, known as “The Great Depression”.
In 1938 she married John Logan in the Dover Methodist Church. In 1941 she resigned to stay home and raise a family. After the children where in school, she returned to teaching. She taught in Newark school district for twenty two years. She was teacher of the year in 1972 and was always appreciative of that honor.
During her retirement years, Alice always remained active in her church, YWCA, Newark New Century Club, and sewing and bridge club. Most of all she enjoyed having fun with her family. She always enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading.
She is survived by her daughters, Kay Brodie and husband Herb of Chestertown, MD and Carol Yust and husband Ed of Ocean City, NJ; four granddaughters, Mindie Paquette and husband Bobby of Boca Raton, FL, Wendy Monteleone and husband Jim of Marmora, NJ, Amy Scout and husband Justin of Yamhill, OR and Laura Deschere and husband Peter of Newark, DE; nine great grandchildren, Grace and Gianna Paquette, Logan and Jordan Monteleone, Ronan, Liam and Colin Scout and Layla and Samantha Deschere; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, four siblings and her husband of sixty eight years. She leaves behind many pleasant memories to her host of friends and her loving family.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be at 2:30 at White Clay Creek Cemetery.
