Alice J. Tarr, age 67, of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013.
Alice was born April 6, 1946 in Ithaca, NY to Howard and Mary (Schoolfield) Jennings. Alice was a substitute teacher for Cecil County Public Schools, she counseled head injury patients at the Hartfeld House in PA, and she was the director of the Settlement House for approximately ten years in Elkton, MD. Recently, Alice was employed at the Cecil County Health Department and taught G.E.D. classes at the Cecil Community College. She was a member of Rock Presbyterian Church where she was an officer and active with various committees. Alice was a friendly and caring person who loved her dogs and animals of all kinds.
Alice is survived by her two sons, Dave Tarr and his wife, Ronnie of Cheltenham, MD and Steven M. Tarr and his wife, Dawn of Abilene, KS; and three grandchildren, Nicki, Brandon, and Sierra Tarr.
A visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921. A service honoring Alice’s life will be held at 11am Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Rock Presbyterian Church, on the corner of Route 273 and Rock Church Road, Elkton, MD 21921, where family and friends may call beginning at 10am. Burial will follow in Sharps Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o the funeral home.

My cousin "little Alice" was the absolute apple of her Uncle Johnny's (my father's) eye! He left me a picture of her when she was about 5 years old and she had a mass of bright curls and was so pretty she took my breath away! Alice was soft spoken and immensely kind and very loving to her cousins, aunts and uncles and Granny. I know that her uncle Johnny and aunt Kaatje were there to greet her when she crossed over to the other side with laughter, hugs, kisses, and incredible joy to see her again! I am certain they will be showing her around!! My heart goes out to her boys who were so precious to her and her grandchildren and daughters inlaw too. Alice made an incredible contribution to this world with her devoted service to people in need. She will be missed so very much.

It is with a heavy heart that I pass this news from Cynthia Brown Ingram of the passing of our dear Alice Tarr… a longtime supporter, friends, confidant and defender of MRDC and a true gentile, yet strong spirit…. I first met Alice at the Cecil County Men’s Shelter that MRDC was instrumental in help fund and provide administrative support during its’ start up years…. Alice later became director at the shelter and we worked closely together which resulted in her being invited to sit on the board of MRDC. Her support of MRDC, especially the MRDC Head Start program brought a solid, sensitive and sensible presence to our board and the various roles that she performed on the board, various committees and MRDC Head Start Policy Council.
