My cousin "little Alice" was the absolute apple of her Uncle Johnny's (my father's) eye! He left me a picture of her when she was about 5 years old and she had a mass of bright curls and was so pretty she took my breath away! Alice was soft spoken and immensely kind and very loving to her cousins, aunts and uncles and Granny. I know that her uncle Johnny and aunt Kaatje were there to greet her when she crossed over to the other side with laughter, hugs, kisses, and incredible joy to see her again! I am certain they will be showing her around!! My heart goes out to her boys who were so precious to her and her grandchildren and daughters inlaw too. Alice made an incredible contribution to this world with her devoted service to people in need. She will be missed so very much.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I worked with Alice at Hartefeld House in Avondale PA. She was the queen of the stir fry night. Each client would choose his or her toppings for Alice, then she would use her Wok to make the most tasty stir fry. She was compassionate and a great listener. She was an admired and trusted friend. My thoughts and prayers to the family of such a wonderful lady. God Bless, Carol J Buckland

Sent to the member of the Board and senior staff of MRDC... Ladies and Gentlemen…. It is with a heavy heart that I pass this news from Cynthia Brown Ingram of the passing of our dear Alice Tarr… a longtime supporter, friends, confidant and defender of MRDC and a true gentile, yet strong spirit…. I first met Alice at the Cecil County Men’s Shelter that MRDC was instrumental in help fund and provide administrative support during its’ start up years…. Alice later became director at the shelter and we worked closely together which resulted in her being invited to sit on the board of MRDC. Her support of MRDC, especially the MRDC Head Start program brought a solid, sensitive and sensible presence to our board and the various roles that she performed on the board, various committees and MRDC Head Start Policy Council. Alice was also a quiet and supportive friend to me in both my role as Executive Director, but in my personal life as well. Often she would have the right comment, the right and perfectly timed message to help me face a challenge. Her final challenge was met with , just like Alice, quiet strength and resolve…… I would ask the membership of the board to consider a lasting tribute in Alice’s memory R.Kevin Brooks, Executive Director MD Rural Dev. Corp

I've only known Alice since February 2012 when I first started working at the health department. Alice was especially helpful to me in understanding how resource coordination happens. She was always willing to explain various policies and procedures and more importantly how best to serve clients. I am very thankful for having been acclimated to this new position by such an understanding, humorous, and caring person. Alice you are sincerely missed!
Rev. Carl Mazza left a message on June 3, 2013:
Alice was one of the most compassionate persons I have ever known. Working with her as a volunteer and the the Director of Settlement House over 12 years taught me much about the capacity of the human heart for unconditional love of others. Alice could be tough and demanding in her work, but she always placed first and above all the needs of the homeless men she loved and cared about so much. Many owe their success to her wholehearted intervention in their lives, and her constant faith in their capacity to overcome and achieve. I will never forget her. Settlement House still holds her memory and devoted work as part of their ongoing mission to reach out a hand of friendship to homeless men, especially the Veterans. Our prayers are with Dave and Steven and all her family and friends.
