Alice Elizabeth Morrison Clabaugh, a 6th generation Delawarean, passed away Thursday, February 8th, 2018 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Facility in Rising Sun, MD. She was born in Ogletown, Delaware, February 27, 1931 to Frank W. Morrison, Jr. and Elizabeth Davis Morrison. She attended a one-room school in Ogletown, graduated from Newark High School in 1948 and attended Beacom College.
Mrs. Clabaugh had been a bookkeeper for Morrison Hardware starting in 1957 until 1972. From 1972 to 1998, she was co-owner and Treasurer of the family business, Ogletown Hardware, in Ogletown and later in Glasgow. She also worked in the Agriculture Department at the University of Delaware in the mid 50’s and again in the 70’s. She was a 75-year member of Christiana United Methodist Church and, in earlier years, was involved in the musical ministries of the church. Recently, she was active in the restoration of the church cemetery.
Her main interests in life were her family and helping others. Many years ago, she had been a Den Mother for Cub Pack 75 – twice, once for each son. A lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan, she also enjoyed gardening, needlework, music, local history, and having lunch with her long-time high school and church friends. At the age of 74, she began clarinet lessons and attended the Academy of Life-long Learning.
Her husband of 43 years, Thomas J. Clabaugh, died in 1997. She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. “Skip” Clabaugh and his wife, Lou Ann, of Middletown, DE and Scott F. Clabaugh and his wife, Judie, of Newark, DE; two granddaughters, Crystal A. Pollock (Brian) of Middletown, DE and Carrie E. Winter (Sean) of Milford, DE; one great-granddaughter, Lauren E. Pollock, and three great-grandsons, Jonathan T. Pollock, Logan P. Winter and Ethan C. Winter. Also surviving is a sister, Linda Morrison Russell (James) of Glasgow, DE, as well as numerous nephews and nieces from the Clabaugh, Russell and Morrison families. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, G. Willard Morrison and her niece, Jill Russell Eddy.
A viewing will be held Thursday, February 15th from 6 PM to 9 PM at the R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St in Newark, DE. Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, February 16th at 11:00 AM. at the Christiana United Methodist Church, 21 W. Main St in Christiana, DE. Friends may call on the family after 10:00 AM.
Burial will be in the Christiana Presbyterian Church Cemetery where she joins five previous generations of ancestors on both sides of her family.
