Alice B. Hammell, age 97, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington. She was born on March 22, 1914.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane McAlpine and her husband, Robert of Newark, DE; and sister, Romayne McCormick of Hockessin, DE.
Alice loved the outdoors and farming. She raised chickens and sold their eggs. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was an active member of the White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school. An avid seamstress, she was a member of the Needlework Guild of North America for many years.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Penisula McCabe United Methodist Church, 2200 Baynard Blvd., Wilmington, DE. Burial will follow at White Clay Creek Cemetery in Newark, DE, where she has been a member since 1977. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Penisula McCabe United Methodist Church, c/o R.T. Foard and Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
