Ada Lucille Amy, age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away August 14, 2018. She was born on February 2, 1927 in Bryn Athyn, PA to the late Ronald and Neva Webster.
Ada loved her family and would look forward to spending every Sunday with them. She lovingly baked her homemade biscuits, topped with her homemade raspberry jelly, which everyone always looked forward to. Every Christmas she baked dozens and dozens of delicious cookies to share with her family and friends. Some of Ada’s hobbies included canning and crocheting. Ada was always crocheting a blanket for someone to enjoy and it brought her joy to make it for them. She also loved to travel around the country visiting family and friends, especially in Arkansas and Oklahoma. One of Ada’s favorite pastimes was Chinese Checkers. She loved playing with her grandchildren and in later years, playing with her friends in the nursing home. She was unbeatable! Ada also loved to babysit and take care of young children, a few of which she fostered. Many of these children have continued to keep in touch with her over the years, visiting her or calling her on her birthday.
Ada is survived by her daughters, Arlene Gray, her husband Joseph; and Gloria Hope Payne; sons, Ron Payne, his wife Kim; Allen Payne, his wife Diane; Ray Amy, his wife Carol Ann; sister, Alethe Simon; sister-in-law, Hilda Webster; sister-in-law, Gloria Hope Colbert. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, David, Lisa, Steven, Sarah, Elaine, Joey, Megan, Nicole, Ray, Alice, Jimmy, Rusty, Michael, Brian, Eric and Anne; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ada is preceded in death by her first husband, James Robert Payne; second husband, Raymond Amy; brother, George Webster; sisters, Mary Travelino; Jean Crouse; and Irene Smith; son, John Amy; and daughter, Ella Brown.
Services for Ada Lucille Amy will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Newark Manor” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
