William L. Kirn, Sr., 82, of Newark, DE, passed away January 3, 2015 at Christiana Hospital.
Born in Camden, NJ on November 2, 1932, William was the son of the late William Benjamin and Edna Hummel Kirn. He was a painter, a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from General Motors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an animal lover. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Kirn of Newark; two sons, William L. Kirn, Jr. and Edward E. Kirn, both of Newark; and 3 grandchildren, Lauren E. Kirn and Edward Ellsworth Kirn, both of Newark and William Benjamin Kirn of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas R. Kirn who died in 2007 and his daughter in law Sharon Kirn.
A service honoring his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday January 8, 2015 at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720 with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Burial at Gracelawn will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Faithful Friends and mailed to R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
