William J. Fraser, age 98, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016, at his home in Newark, Delaware. He was one of twins born to the late Sgt. and Mrs. John Fraser.
He retired from the Newark Post Office in 1975 with 26 years of service, where he was employed as clerk, carrier, and was in charge of vehicle operations. In 1968 he received the “National Suggestion of the Year” award given by the Post Office Department. During World War II he served in the Pacific with the 198th Coast Artillery. He was a member of Post 475 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Pythias, National Association of Federal Retired Employees, Life Member of Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Co. where he held the offices of President, Vice President and Secretary, and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Newark Historical Society, Newark Senior Center, Newark High School Class of 1935, and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
He is survived by daughters Margaret E. Fraser and Norma A. Ringel, grandsons William C. Ringel and J. Fraser Ringel and his wife, Marla, (adopted) son Gene Garritt, sister-in-law Anne C. Cain and nieces Julie Keppel, Chrissy Halkes, and Cindy Schaeffer.
He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Alice Cox Fraser, sister Anna Margaret Whiteman, niece Phyllis Anne Stark, and nephew Phil Harrison.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711, with a viewing beginning at 9:30 am. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church and burial will be held at 1 pm at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Co. and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
