Scott Alan Hayes, age 55, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on July 17, 2025. Born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved son of Richard A. Hayes and the late Sandra J. (née Schappell) Hayes, and the devoted husband of Ratna (née Sonti) Hayes.
Scott earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Western Governors University and worked as a principal network engineer at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Known for his deep technical expertise and collaborative spirit, he was highly respected by colleagues and peers alike.
Beyond his professional life, Scott was a man of many passions. He found great joy in storytelling and imagination through his love of Dungeons & Dragons as Aasimar warlock.
A lifelong advocate of Scouting, Scott began as a Cub Scout and continued his service for decades. Along with family, Ratna, Sita and Albert, Scott contributed to the Del-Mar-Va Scouting program for many years and volunteered as a Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster and received the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, which is given by youth to recognize those who set the standard for brotherhood cheerfulness, and service. Scott’s unwavering dependability and IT expertise transformed how the Pack ran the Pinewood Derby. He was an exceptional cook with a gift for teaching the craft. Scott lived with the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life with cheerful attitude and loyalty. His dedication to mentoring youth culminated in a proud family legacy when his son earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Scott Hayes was a soul of quiet strength and deep grace, whose presence brought light and peace to all who knew him. He faced life’s trials with unwavering faith and a calm resilience that uplifted those around him. Scott cared deeply for his family and friends, and extended that same compassion, humility, and love to everyone he encountered. He lived with a grateful heart, recognizing the divine in every day and honoring each person as a reflection of something greater. His life was a testament to kindness, service, and unconditional love. Above all, Scott was a man of profound generosity—a true Blessing, whose spirit will continue to shine in the hearts he touched.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ratna Hayes; his daughter, Sita Hayes; son, Albert Hayes; father, Richard A. Hayes; sister, Brenda Hayes; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Steve Laskoski; nephew, Zach; and niece, Miranda.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the R. T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, Maryland. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service at the R. T. Foard Life Event Center.
