Ruth M. Buckingham-McClean

Ruth M. Buckingham-McClean passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021. She had been living comfortably at Pocopson Home in Pennsylvania for the last few years.

Ruth was born on November 29, 1927 in Blue Ball, MD. Her father, Howard Miller, was a farm manager but later purchased the family farm in Landenburg, PA. Ruth spent many summers at her grandmother and grandfather’s farm, that of the late Robert and Laura Connell, on the site of today’s Lamatan housing development just north of Corner Ketch, DE.

Following World War II, Ruth married Richard Buckingham. The Buckingham’s have a long history in the Corner Ketch area and Ruth continued to live in that community until a late age. She was very well known in the Delaware, Maryland, and Southeastern Pennsylvania area for her artwork in watercolors. Ruth was a prolific painter and most often created farm and landscape scenes from her childhood, properties that are mostly housing developments today. Over the years, Ruth won many awards for her artwork. For Ruth, this was a lifelong pursuit encouraged in her childhood by her mother, Marjorie Miller, who was a schoolteacher and accomplished artist. Ruth is predeceased by husband, Richard Buckingham; second husband, Paul McClean; and sister, Lorraine Thompson.

Ruth is survived by her three children: Milene Buckingham, Ruth Hubbard (Raymond), Richard Buckingham IV (Barbara). Ruth also has 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Services for Ruth will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
