Rosalind J. “Roz” Smart, 61, a lifelong resident of Elkton, MD, passed away at home July 30, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Wilmington, DE on April 14, 1954, Roz was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary Ruth. Roz volunteered for many years in the public school system and worked as a paraprofessional for 20 years, working with special needs children, whom she loved. Roz enjoyed scrapbooking and working crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by many.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Ronald Smart; two daughters, Rosalind Setting and her husband James of Townsend, DE, and April Kivlin of Elkton, MD; four grandchildren, Madelyn and Carly Setting, and John and Ryan Kivlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, john Kivlin, Jr., and 2 sisters.
Services honoring her life will be held at 12 noon on Thursday August 6, 2015 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21921 with a visitation at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. I met Roz & Ron through mutual friends in their neighborhood. Dorie & Vince and Margaret & Ron Poore back in the mid 70's. We all made some wonderful great memories together having our babies, summer picnics, New Years Eve house parties, etc. We never really needed a holiday to throw a fun party.... Through the years we kind of drifted apart some of us divorced and moved away, but we never forgot those we knew back when we were much younger. I sometimes ran into Roz at Kohl's in Glasgow. Both of us shopping for grandkids. Always a pleasure to talk and catch up on each others lives. Sadly our busy lives got in the way of visiting and sitting on the deck having a drink together. I wish I could have that chance to still do that with Roz, but now that cannot be. I will miss her . She was a nice person.

I met Roz 38 years ago when we were young and beautiful and were just starting our adult lives. ….and our families. We were pregnant with our 2nd children at the same time and we were neighbors who lived 2 doors from each other and saw each other almost every day. Our husbands and we were such close friends. We partied and danced and drank until the wee hours of the morning many, many, many nights. We watched each other’s babies grow and enjoyed each other’s thoughts, recipes, secrets and stories for many years.
