Ronald “Ron” Lee Walstrum of Newark, DE passed away Friday, June 24, 2022. He was born in Wilmington, DE on September 27, 1949 to the late Howard Ambrose Walstrum and Zella Belle (Manning) Walstrum.
Ron graduated from Smyrna High School in 1968, and served his country for 14 years in the Unites States Army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, with several years stationed in Germany and concluding in Fort Hood, TX. After the army, Ron developed an interest in motorcycles and later joined the Teamsters Horsemen Chapter 53 Original motorcycle club. He enjoyed fishing, target shooting, bowling, photography, and playing pool. Ron was a collector of many things, including an impressive variety of baseball caps. A man that liked to keep his hands busy, he learned to craft a multitude of fishing rods, flies, sinkers and lures. Ron was a movie buff who especially enjoyed action and westerns. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, who will remember him as a generous protector that loved to laugh. Ron will be dearly missed.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary “Lou” Walstrum; daughter, Rebecca Anne Hartnett; son, Lance Edward Walstrum (Erika); two grandsons: Seth Ambrose Hartnett (Chelsea Pyle) and Raymond Cole Walstrum; granddaughter, Alivia Lucille Walstrum; brother, Johnny Russell Allison (Kelley); sister, Deborah Ann Patchett; sisters-in-law: Marie and Barbara Walstrum, Patsy and Mickey Pawley, Dorothy Arbogast; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his twin brother Roger Walstrum; brothers Donald Walstrum and Harold Arbogast; brother-in-law Donald “Slim” Patchett.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do a good deed for someone else to honor Ron’s memory.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 22, 2022 at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St. Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 am. Burial will be held privately.
